well i would define scientism as a certain culture, philosophical paradigm, and tribal affiliation. And yes they see it as pejorative, but to me they’re just another tribe.
The real issue of NDEs, for many people who believe in an afterlife, is not an imperical one. The logic of disembodied consciousness is not inductive, as in the scientific method, it is deductive, as in math.
The argument is: If you get up from the table and make an accurate description of events which occurred in a completely separated location while you were incapacitated, it constitutes deductive evidence of information acquired by extra-sensory means. I think that this, along with other reports of a similar nature, is the compelling issue for a large portion of so-called “unscientific” humanity.
In math, there is no statistically significant sample, since it is entirely abstract.
i’ve read arguments about it, but none that attempt to answer this one. What do you think the scientista’s counter argument would be?
