You want to be enlightened? start here: "unaware of the invisible shield my gender provided"
That's a significant oversimplification. It's not just your gender protecting you, it's many factors, only one of which is about gender. Social rank, circumstance, and personal perception, to name a few.
Gender - if you don't count prison populations, then of course females have a much higher chance of being sexually harassed or assaulted than males. But a far more significant factor is-
Social rank - which for women means physical attractiveness. Her chance of being harassed or assaulted is directly proportional to her social rank.
Circumstance - anyone is more likely to be assaulted at night in a dark alley in a poor part of town then they are in a library in broad daylight.
Personal perception - some people judge things according to facts and statistics about sexual assault. Others have emotional reactions to what they see on TV and take that as factual reality.
Of course, if your publishing on medium and want to get more clicks, then the biggest factor, by far, needless to say, is peer pressure, in which case it's far better to just reiterate the party line.
